Building Systems for Mathematical Retention in Accelerated ECHS Pathways

Early College High Schools often accelerate students through foundational mathematics coursework, creating opportunities for advanced learning and increased college attainment. However, acceleration can also present challenges when foundational concepts are not revisited consistently over time. This Problems of Practice session explores the relationship between acceleration, mathematical retention, and college readiness while encouraging leaders to examine how instructional systems, pathway experiences, and authentic application opportunities support long-term mathematical understanding.
